first casualty

this morning, i was doing the dishes like a normal person would do....now that i finally have a sink stopper. we only have a single sink, so its a little different than we're used to. i washed everything. i rinsed everything. i put things in the dishwasher to dry. you may be thinking now, 'why doesn't she just put things in the dishwasher to wash them?' our dishwasher is fairly horrible at washing dishes. and since its just the two of us, it would take us about a week to fill it up enough to run, making all of the food into cement on the dishes. we have discovered that the dishwasher instead makes a great drying rack - leaving our counter free for other things we might need it for. so, back to the dishes. i was draining the water and turned on the garbage disposal to help it along. then i heard it. anyone who has a garbage disposal knows the sound. the sound of something....trapped.

i'm not sure if i should say 'luckily' it was just a plastic teaspoon. if it had been something metal, of course the sound would have been worse, but it wouldn't have broken into millions of tiny bits that had to be fished out of the drain.
