jungle bells, jungle bells

this year for christmas, we decided to do a fun trip together to do something we might not normally do instead of get a bunch of random stuff for each other. a trip to the san diego zoo and the san diego temple was just the ticket.

we were worried when we left home that we might have to make some other plans once we got to san diego because the weatherman said it was going to be cold and rainy. luckily it was just cold! we still got to go see all the animals and were only cold if we didn't move all the time. we got to meet all kinds of snakes, birds, bugs, birds, big animals, and birds. yep, there were lots and lots of birds....everywhere we turned.

some of our favorites of the day...
the elephants
the female ice carver ice carving competition where they sculpted a bear (for the california golden bears) and a ute (for the utah utes....no you really do see a bird and not the actual mascot of the university of utah...)
the giraffes (my personal favorite) who posed so perfectly for my picture

and the highlight show of the day....
the sea lion show
it was all so fun and totally worth the cold.
the next day we went to the san diego temple before heading to arizona for the holidays. we were blown away at how beautiful the temple is inside. we would easily welcome any excuse to go down for another visit.
as usual (and as happened the rest of our christmas vacation), we didn't take any pictures. luckily i have this one saved from may when we went to tish and chris's wedding at the san diego temple. same place right?

We didn't take many picture, either, though I meant to. Rats. The elephant looks cold. And like it's in Jurassic Park.

that temple is amazing. I swore I would get married there... alas no such luck!
