our fridge

our fridge is covered with these magnets
(and other stuff like shopping lists and christmas cards and wedding announcements....but those aren't important for this post)
not long after ryan and i got married, we decided we wanted to start collecting cool magnets from the places we've been. we don't want to forget the experiences that went along with the magnets, so i thought i'd document. feel free to read along or move on to other blogs ;)
  • zion national park - ryan and i met derek and shatal in zion park in the summer of 2008. we decided to meet at noon just outside of the park, but both parties happened to forget the time change between utah and arizona. as it was, we were both right on time....just an hour apart. we did lots of hiking and saw some amazing views.

  • texas, more specifically houston - my whole family went to david and julie's for thanksgiving in 2007. it was so fun to be there with everyone and get to see david and julie's new house, especially since it will probably be years and years before we see it again.

  • hawaii - funny story about this one. we went to hawaii on our honeymoon, but didn't start collecting magnets until we went to new york the next summer. while we were in new york at beth and chris's, they mentioned that our friend, general, was in hawaii. we got chris to call general and ask him to get us a magnet. well, he did. he mailed it to us when he got back and its perfect. we couldn't have picked a better one ourselves.

  • chicago - i actually went to chicago without ryan, but we decided i should get a magnet anyway. i went to chicago to the asha (american speech-language and hearing association) convention in november 2008 with my grad school buddy, caryn. i had to hurry and buy the magnet as caryn and i got kicked out of the sears tower. we were the last ones up on the elevator and the last ones down, but it was worth it.

  • wupatki - ryan and i decided that we needed to see some sights around flagstaff before we moved, so one day we went to wapatki to see the ruins. they're super old ruins from some indians who lived a long time ago....not much to say.

  • africa - ok, ok. we didn't go to africa. my sister, annie, went to africa last summer for work. she brought back this awesome magnet for us and i didn't want to shun it away from the other magnets just because we haven't been there.

  • central park - ryan and i went to new york city and visited beth and chris the summer after we got married. we did lots of sight seeing and had fun hanging out with them. we saw mary poppins while we were there. i had to twist ryan's arm like crazy to get him to agree to see it, but we both loved it. if you ever get a chance, go see it!

  • iowa - this magnet is the reason i got one in chicago. ryan went to iowa fpr a med school interview around the same time i went to chicago, so we decided we'd each get a magnet during our trips.

  • ardastra gardens, bahamas - we went to this garden when we stopped at nassau during our cruise. we had planned to do something cool like scuba diving or snorkeling or something that day...but i had a broken shoulder. we ended up touring the city and stopping here where we saw the world famous flamingos.

  • san diego zoo - we went here about a month ago for our christmas/anniversary present to ourselves. it was cold, but lots of fun. we saw all of the animals on the magnet....just not on the bus.

  • disney cruise line - this one is from the graduation present/pre-med school cruise we went on last may. we were so glad we got it while we were still on board. once we got to the airport, we found absolutely nothing about disney cruises - only the disney parks in orlando. anyone pondering going on a cruise....go. its so worth it!

well, i hope you've enjoyed the tour of our fridge magnets. we have also gotten some sweet christmas ornaments (mostly santas) from a lot of these places. maybe next christmas i'll document all of their stories. i bet you're all just dying for that day to come ;)

I do that, too! But I started it before I even knew Josh. He actually thought I was kind of a dork for hunting for one in Cancun on our honeymoon. I know I'm a dork, but I don't really think it's the magnet that did it...

It's fun to have reminders. And- you have been to a lot of cool and fun places.
We collect ornaments (remember the taxi cab you gave us?)but I guess they are only from the places we have lived. And we have pictures hanging up from Scotland and NY, I guess we should think about getting some kind of picture from Wyoming.

Our fridge isn't magnetic, except on the side, so magnets don't work for us :(. But we do try and get an ornament from places we go (like Yellowstone) that demonstrate something we did or something memorable from the trip (example: this past summer we got a Yellowstone ornament with a bear fishing in a canoe- as we spent most of our time there fly fishing- the whole purpose of the trip).

You guys have been to some great places! Reading this post made me realize that I haven't found/unpacked my magnets yet. I could really use my Chicago magnet, it's a nice strong one.

you know...just today i was looking for a strong magnet so that i could steal one to clip a bag shut and i finally found one hidden under some other papers. you might think that i could simply use one of the dozen in the picture, but no....they don't move from their shrine corner of the fridge.
