ryan scheduled a rotation with dr. carter, a surgeon, in thatcher for the month after isaac was born. the rotation is four weeks long, so we decided we'd all go and spend some time with our arizona family before we end up in any number of places in the country for residency.
the drive to arizona was pretty uneventful. stopping every 3 hours or so to feed isaac made for some nice breaks and time for cody to run around a bit. we usually bring a little bowl to put snacks for cody in, but we forgot. mr. potato head's shoes make a good substitute, right?
one of the first things cody discovered at grandma and grandpa's house was grandpa's canes. he liked to pull one out for him and one for someone else and then they would have to follow him around tapping their cane on the floor like him.
no thatcher trip is complete without a trip to the thrift store. cody spent most of the visit driving this little car.
and a few minutes on the train with a cool hat.
they were having a sale on shoes, so we got a few pair for cody to grow into. the best find of all, though, was these 'cars' slippers. cody wore them every day while we were there
cody and isaac shared a room, like they do at home. it was so sweet to peek in and see them both sleeping peacefully.
my mom taught cody a song about a little turtle ('i have a little turtle...') that ends with 'bubbles bubbles bubbles...' cody loved taking baths with 'bubbles bubbles bubbles' at grandma's house
dad giving cody 'pats' and cody giving isaac 'pats' ('niiice' - as cody would say)
cody walked around with his 'pager' on for a whole day, ready for any emergency and learned how to listen for heartbeats.
cody is always grandma's 'best helper.' he vacuumed her bathroom and various other parts of the house almost every day. and always in style...
most afternoons, grandma and her 'best helper' worked hard in the yard trimming back and pulling up the dead plants to get ready for spring. it was so nice to give mom a little down time and sure wore cody out. he crashed hard the moment his head hit the bed each night.
many days when they were outside, the neighbor kids, hannah and jonah, came over to play with cody. there were even a couple of times that jonah rang the doorbell to see if cody could come out and play with him - even though he's several years older than cody. he was so good at playing with and entertaining cody. they could play outside for hours if we'd let them.
our first week there, we tried out storytime at the safford library. it was awful, so we decided to try pima's the next week. we got all cute and ready...
and found out we had missed it altogether. so we went to the park instead and made sure to be on time for the next two weeks...
