family fun and lots of applesauce

we've had a busy weekend!  we had marianne bring her girls up on friday for a quick visit in the morning.  we have some sister missionaries in our ward right now, and one day realized that marianne was the miamaid adviser to one of them back in utah!  small world huh?  this same missionary (sister garlick) came from david and julie's ward, so we had double connections with her! (not to mention one of her companions at one time was from uncle dean garrett's ward - he is her bishop).  sister garlick and marianne had a fun little reunion and the kids loved playing together.

it worked out that marianne had a bit of shopping to do while i went to yoga and then we met up for lunch at chick-fil-a.  isaac actually loved wearing his hat for longer than expected.

he is still a bit small to run off and play, but that didn't stop cody and capri!  we loved watching them pop out of the slide every few minutes and discovered that they actually look a little bit alike!  maybe some garrett genes are coming through a little.

cody's kids meal included a game called 'go ape' (pretty much 'go fish' but with monkeys).  we played it at chick-fil-a and have been playing it non-stop since!

after chick-fil-a (and nap time), we drove down to david and julie's.  we both got gift cards for texas roadhouse for christmas, so we got a babysitter and made a double date out of it.

we sent a picture to my parents and my mom asked us to eat some peanuts for her.  done!

bountiful baskets had a great deal on a box of apples, so we each ordered one and made applesauce on saturday morning.  wow, that is a big job and much easier (and more fun) with help!!

luckily we had lots of little helpers...
(for about 3 minutes)

who were also willing to help uncle david with fertilizing the lawn

julie and i got quite the system going inside with boiling apples and filling jars.

while david and ryan did the actual 'saucing' of the apples.

we have yet to try it since we still have lots from grandma, but i'm sure it'll be awesome!

while the adults slaved away :), the kids had a great time.  lily went back and forth between sitting here and being 'worn' by david.

david and julie pulled out this great little swimming pool on the driveway, so the rest of the kids played and played!
