once upon a time (i can't actually remember when it was), we found a great deal on a dining table on craiglist. we borrowed a truck from some neighbors and went to pick it up. it wasn't until we got it home and in the house that we discovered a terrible, penetrating cigar stench followed the table anywhere it went. we tried everything we and the internet could think of to get rid of the smell, but nothing really worked.
we very nearly listed it to resell on craigslist because we just couldn't handle the smell, but we finally decided (for some reason that we can no longer remember) to refinish it together. it has definitely been a project....
we decided we'd try to just finish the table first (our original goal was to try and finish by new years - yeah, right). we stripped off all the finish from the table pieces first and got them all sanded down.
i love the clean, smooth look of freshly sanded wood!
we got it all stained in march....yeah, not by new years.
and then did the finish
it was sometimes a bit tricky to keep cody busy so he wouldn't 'help' too much (isaac was usually napping while we worked), but he was pretty content to paint his own pictures.
and now that its april, we finally got it finished and set up!
it still needs some work and we have six chairs (with lots of grooves) to refinish, but progress is progress right?
