galveston island

a few months ago, david and julie asked if we'd watch their girls for a few days while they got some time away.  we, actually i (since ryan was sick) was happy to oblige and make a trade for similar services.  ryan had some continuing education to do in houston last week, so after it was over we took off for a few days in galveston - kid free!

we got in pretty late, but grabbed some little caesars for dinner (since it was about the only thing open) and enjoyed sleeping in the next morning.

we looked up some things to do and got recommendations from friends.  first thing we hit up was some mini golf.  the course was in terrible need of repair and lots of things weren't even turned on, but we made it lots of fun.

ryan got a little overzealous with the cannon shot and temporarily lost his ball.  luckily we were the only ones playing, so we didn't hold anyone up while we looked around.

good thing i always have fun losing :) 

it was a bit chilly, but we had a fun walk down the beach and checked out some of the jettys. 

we grabbed an amazing lunch at 'the spot' overlooking the gulf. 

their burgers were huge.  i was totally full with just a kids meal! 

we spent most of the rest of the day checking out stores along the strand.  its amazing how relaxing 'browsing' can be when you're not swatting little hands away from everything breakable!  we nearly went back to our hotel without a stop at la king's confectionary, but i convinced ryan we needed to go back.  their ice cream was completely worth it.  delicious! 

we had a great time in galveston and then spent most of saturday doing car shopping in the houston area.

we did stop at bucee's on our way back in from galveston.  its a huge convenience store in this part of texas.  we had to experience it at least once.

i couldn't believe how many flavors they had of icee.  i had to take a picture to document for chris.

we ended up finding our sweet new ride before we picked up the boys (we didn't actually pick it up until today).  cody loves telling people about our new van!  

we did get one picture while we were gone, and clearly the boys had a great time with their cousins while we were gone!!
