preschool fun

we had double duty for preschool this month with a regular preschool day featuring the letter 'l' and a field trip day we were in charge of.

olivia was out of town for 'l' so we had quite a houseful of boys.  we did lots  with ladybugs, lizards, and even made lemonade.  its always entertaining to watch someone try a lemon :)

they were all thrilled to be able to have a little bit of lemonade with their lunches after squeezing the lemons and mixing it up themselves.

the growth these kids have made over the year was so apparent as i watched them carefully cut and color and take the time to do each activity well.  i remember the first few weeks when they'd just color a tiny part and then be jetting on to the next thing.  its fun to see them progress!

we planned our field trip to a couple of places in town.  first stop h.e.b.  olivia was out of town still, but our friends, the clark's, joined us.

i've heard grocery store field trips are really fun.  this was....not quite as fun as we expected.  we basically just walked around the store while the lady pointed out foods.  it did get more exciting when we stopped by the deli for some heart shaped cheese slices and the seafood counter to meet leo the lobster!

as we walked around the produce section, the tour guide seemed to be trying to stump the kids, but cody and isaac just shouted out the names of all the foods she held up.  she was so impressed how well they knew semi-unusual foods.  helps when you eat lots of fruits and vegetables at home i guess!

every kid got a few buddy bucks, so we spent a chunk of time at the end waiting for the kids to cash them in for points.

our next stop was at the conroe fire station.  we've toured the willis fire station a couple of times with story time, but all the boys love all things fire fighter!

there were two crews there and one got called out as soon as we got there, so it was exciting to hear the alarm and see them drive off.

the other crew took us out into the bay and talked about fire safety and showed us their gear.  cody and isaac jumped right in to demonstrate stop, drop, and roll.  we decided to do a family home evening about fire safety where cody and isaac taught the whole family what to do and we worked out an evacuation plan.

bonnie aston joined us for this part of the day and since she was the only one without a baby strapped to her, she was volunteered to try on a turn-out suit.  century wasn't so impressed.

the boys loved the truck and insisted on climbing in each one.

cody asked some good questions and got one of the fire fighters to let him hold the fire hose.

i even made it into one of the pictures!

it was such a fun visit.  the fire fighters did a great job of answering questions, and letting the kids get their fill of climbing in and out of the many trucks they had.  what a fun stop!

When I first heard about the grocery chain in Texas called HEB I thought it was stinking awesome that there were a bunch of stores that used my nickname. It only deflated me a little when I found out it's pronounced h-e-b and not heb.

The fire station looks pretty fun!
