cody has been talking all week about going camping with dad. its been nice weather, so i mentioned it to ryan. little did i know he'd already promised the boys a camp out if the weather was nice on friday night. the weather did cooperate, so they had a backyard camping trip.
ryan had to work until about 5:30, so we handled the shopping and some prep without him. cody made sure we got hot dogs and marshmallows to roast (like we did when we went up the mountain with grandma and grandpa bishop in the fall).
once ryan got home, we got the tent set up while he chopped up some of our wood scraps for a fire. luckily our tent is real easy to get put together, so it was a great job for the boys to help with.
bonnie couldn't be left out, so she hung out in the swing while we worked. she even kept her hat and mittens on without any problems.
we have this tripod for dutch ovening, but it makes a great fire pit as well.
cody and isaac each grabbed a chunk of 4x4 for a seat. then they needed one each for their feet. then one for their knees. then one for their hot dogs. they were so funny to watch.
after i got bonnie to bed inside, i left the boys to their camp out and went to a little girls' night out get together at the weavers. i wondered if the boys would all be in their beds by the time i got home, but they were all still outside. isaac came in around 4 a.m. to go to the bathroom and then ran right back out to the tent when he was done. it was in the 30s that night, so i'm amazed they survived without freezing. cody and isaac loved it. it was a great test-run to see if we're ready for a real camping trip. now we just need to train bonnie a bit :)
