houston zoo

we got some coupons in the mail last week for the zoo, so kimmie and i decided we'd better take advantage of the discount and the weather and go for it.  it was a beautiful day and not crowded at all, so we enjoyed it thoroughly.

when we got there, they had the kids stack their hands for a picture (kimmie said they photo shop a parrot into it to buy).  isaac insisted on doing it again when we snapped our own picture.

we stopped by the elephants first thing when we saw they were getting their morning baths.  they stayed lined up at the window like this for a long time.  we saw this elephant get scrubbed head to toe and hosed off and the one next to him got a good morning snack of broccoli - glad to know we like similar stuff around here....maybe not for breakfast though.

we traded off taking potty stops and playing in this little area.  cody tried on every mask.

and isaac roasted marshmallows with this teeny tiny stick he held until after lunch when he asked me to hold it...and i may or may not have lost it.

we stopped for lunch near the giraffe area and tried to get a picture.  funny how hard it is to get kids to look at you when the sun is shining in their faces.

we had much better luck with the cheetah.

we saw plenty of monkeys of all shapes and sized.

we spent a long time at the playground in the afternoon and had a hard time getting moving along again.  the petting zoo was attraction enough to get us going.  it was mostly just goats, but the kids loved walking around to pet them.  kate called them all puppies.

olivia and cody took care of navigation.  they walked around with a map each for most of the morning telling us where we were and where we should be going, sort of.

we were all pretty exhausted by the time we left.  we played movie in the car to try and keep kids awake and it worked for everyone but olivia.  she was out.  we're so glad we have friends who will do stuff like spur of the moment trips to the zoo with us.
