house hunting and back to reality

well, house hunting in show low turned out great.  we had all kinds of adventures along the way though.

we got up to the area on sunday in time to go to church.  we picked a random ward in pinetop since we thought we'd end up there and during the third hour the power went out.  not so bad for me in relief society, but the men moved outside since the gym was pitch black - little chilly!

we met our realtor, neal thompson, on monday morning.  he took us to about 15 properties throughout the day, with a break for lunch.

one house we liked a little had a bridge.  i sent it to show the boys the billy goats' trip trap bridge, but i guess they thought that was our own house.  we didn't send too many more pictures until we knew which we wanted so they wouldn't be disappointed.

a large portion of the houses we saw had a fire pit somewhere on the property.  definitely a fun thing to have up there.

one house we really just went to see because we were so perplexed by some of the pictures.  one of the bedrooms had a clear glass, box shower install in. the. bedroom.  right by the door - such that if anyone opened the door, you'd see right into the shower and if anyone was sitting just right downstairs, they'd be able to see right into the shower!  this house had lots of very strange things, like a dungeon-feeling play area and a little fire pole.  not for us...

there was one house that really stuck out to us the first day, but we tried to keep an open mind and saw about five houses on tuesday.  nothing really compared with the house we ended up putting an offer on.  we took a few pictures of things we knew the boys would love:

like the playroom with a fun window upstairs.

the tree outside.  there's a hammock on the right side and a swing hanging from the branches as well.

and our very own fire pit.  ryan says he'll work on the ring a bit.

we got a few pictures while were gone of our best helpers having a great time with grandma and grandpa!

we left with plans for an offer to go in once we signed all the paperwork and headed down to thatcher.  i'd left the van with mom and dad and taken mom's vw bug.  just outside of globe, there was a huge rock in the middle of the canyon road that we ran over (it had rained the day before, so there had likely been a bit of a landslide).  we made it a couple more miles before the light came on that the car was overheating.  we pulled off and called my mom.  since it was pretty late already, we tried our friends, the jarvis's, who live in globe to see if they could possibly pick us up and let us sleep on their couch.  luckily amber's a bit of a night owl and was still up.  they saved us and even let us hang out for part of the next day while my mom waited to hear from the insurance company.

we stopped by the car on the way to thatcher to pull everything out and took a couple of pictures.  the damage looked pretty minimal, but they ended up totaling it (it is 20 years old and has 200,000 miles).  we felt pretty terrible that it happened when we were driving it :(

by the time we got back to thatcher, i was totally exhausted.  we ended up staying in thatcher a day longer than we'd planned to wash clothes and rest up a bit.  bonnie dined like a queen.

and ryan discovered what the boys had been doing over by the garden all week.  from what i could tell, the rocks were water and they were the firemen using little buckets to put out fires.  they literally played hours and hours out there - aside from the hours and hours they had spend helping grandma plant flowers and 'shave' trees.

we spent a few days in sierra vista before we came home.  we mostly just relaxed and chatted and played.  it was nice enough to sit in the spa for a bit, but the pool was freezing!

nicole and sean came down for a bit too and we finalized our cruise plans for this summer!  can't wait to celebrate the end of residency!!
