one year old

well, we've made it one whole year as a family of three already.  it was so fun to celebrate cody's first birthday.

we started off the day with opening some presents.  here's his loot pre-opening.  we figured he probably wouldn't be all that interested in unwrapping things, so we just left a lot of things unwrapped so he could see them.

he only had about four wrapped presents to open and after 2, just as suspected, he was pretty much done with that.

he got lots of new board books, a road carpet for his cars to drive on, a popcorn toy, 2 different kinds of blocks (squishy ones from grandma and grandpa bishop and wooden ones from mom and dad), a big stuffed hippo and some cds with lots of fun kids songs.

we decided to make some wood blocks for him so he could have lots of sizes and colors.

since cody's favorite food is pretty much anything to do with banana's, we made banana pancakes for breakfast and let him have his first taste of pancakes the proper way - with peanut butter and syrup.

we tried to do some of cody's favorite things, so we took a walk in the morning and played his new favorite stroller game

after we ran some errands, we took him for his 12 month well child check-up.  i know, kinda mean parents to take him to the doctor on his birthday - especially when there are shots involved.  but since shots have never really bothered him, we figured he'd handle it like a champ as always.

he's keeping right along with the tall and thin genes measuring in at

height - 32 inches (off the charts)

weight - 23 pounds, 15 ounces (about 60th percentile)
(if we hadn't put a fresh diaper on, we probably could've hit 24)

head circumference - 19.5 inches (off the charts)

the nurse was not so nice with the shots and dragged them out about as long as possible.  instead of having all four ready and doing them quick, she went back and forth between the table where we were holding cody and the counter for each shot.  so sad.  but he was fine after a good nap.

as we look for any excuse to make 'the cake,' we decided we better have some friends over to help us eat it and celebrate.
(he's actually very good at 'blowing' things that are very hot, but the flame was just so mesmerizing that he couldn't quite blow it out)

i made cody a small cake of his own.

he didn't really know what to do with it at first, so we had to cut it up a bit for him.

ryan and i ate about 2/3rds of it, but cody definitely enjoyed it, too.
