update on the little boy

it's been a while since i've posted much about what cody's up to these days.  usually i don't like to be too wordy without pictures to back it up, but he's starting to do lots of fun stuff that i don't want to forget.

he's gotten to be a very good, steady walker.  his latest trick is walking backwards.  someone at church yesterday was giving him the stare-down from across the room so he just backed away.  it was so funny to watch.

he got a pair of sunglasses for his birthday.  he likes to bring them to you to put them on for him and then he walks around swinging both of his arms back and forward.  in the past couple of days, he's decided he wants to put them on himself, so we've seen some interesting ways sunglasses can sit on a face.

last week he started doing actions to 'wheels on the bus.'  he'll do the doors open and shut, the horn goes beep (on his own nose), the money goes clink, and the babies go wahhh.  i'm trying to capture it on video, but he wouldn't even do it for the grandmas yesterday.

cody loves shoes.  sometimes he'll carry ryan's tennis shoes around by the laces slung over his shoulder.  he carries my flip-flops all over the living room, in and out of his toy bucket.  if he ever finds his shoes, he brings them straight over so you can put them on and take him outside - where he'd probably be happy spending every moment of his life.

he's still not really saying too much by way of actual words.  he'll say mama and dada (especially when he hears the garage when dad gets home from work).  he'll say mug-mug-mug when its time to scrub-a-mug after dinner.  and he'll say 'ssss' when he finds his shoes.  don't worry, we're working on adding some vocabulary....says the speech therapist in me.

he still loves books and daily pulls every, single one of his books off of his shelf.  we've started going to the library every week and cody's doing the summer reading program.  all we have to do is read 5 books a week and he gets a prize.  pretty sure we read 5 books before breakfast on a normal day.
at fuddruckers on my birthday waiting for the buzzer to go off to see cody's reaction...he was too distracted by everything else going on in the restaurant to care.

any time cody hears music, he's a dancin' man.  it started with the head bob, but now he's kind of got the full body roll going.  that's another one we're trying to catch on video.  maybe someday.

he likes the 'from head to toe' book and now if you say 'i am a gorilla and i thump my chest' then he'll thump his chest.  we're still working on 'i am a seal and i clap my hands.'  he doesn't really like to do that one on demand.

if he finds some bare toes, he loves to grab them and 'tickle' them (basically just hold on while you squirm and laugh like he's tickling you).  he thinks its hilarious and also loves if you say the 'this little piggy' rhyme....just not so much when its his own toes.

we sure love this little boy and can't believe how much more fun he gets every day!
