arizona weeks 3 and 4

we spent a weekend over in sierra vista while we were in arizona since ryan had friday off each week.  sean and nicole happened to come down too, so we had plenty of fun hanging out with grandma, grandpa, uncle sean, and aunt nicole for a few days.  so much fun that we didn't take a single picture...

most of the time at grandma berta's, we got a little nervous if cody went into the arizona room and it got too quiet.  he liked to go in and look at grandma's rock collection and one day crawled up on the couch out there to relax and look at rocks through the little magnifying glass.

grandpa treated us to frozen yogurt at the 'little red caboose.'  cody, of course, thought it was fantastic since it fit one of his favorite songs.  its a self-serve place, so after he watched everyone else get their bowl full of ice cream, he went over to the bowls to help himself.  luckily he wasn't quite tall enough to reach the ice cream handles without alerting us to his antics by pulling one of the noisy metal chairs over.  he was at least pretty happy to share our ice cream with us.

we had several days of pretty cold weather, so we took advantage of one warmer afternoon to go feed the ducks and geese.  it was really windy and most of our food was some tortilla chips, so it made it a little hard to throw them far enough...not to mention the mean geese chased off all the ducks!

isaac spent this, and many other outings snuggled in his sling.  he hardly makes a peep anytime he's in it and falls asleep so fast.

when i was in thatcher in december, i made our family matching christmas jammie pants.  my mom was making theirs and had extra fabric, so i made some pants for cody and isaac to match them.  annie has the same fabric too, but we couldn't ever work out how to get everyone together for a picture.  cody loved to point out 'same...same.'

as you can well imagine, much of our time at grandma's was spent reading books.  she went through her books before we came and made a shelf of books she thought cody would especially like and we read them over and over.  grandma even ordered our favorite book ('where's walrus') while we were there.  walrus is the only reason we can get cody to lay down on his tummy in the tub.  hopefully one day we can get cody over his deathly fear of laying down on his back in the tub...

my grandma came down to arizona on the 14th.  she spent a few days in phoenix and scottsdale with my uncle jeff and uncle steve's families and then made her way down to stay with my mom for a month or so.  it was so fun to have her around and to have a chance for cody to get to know his great-grandma a little.  he still asks for 'geat gamma' any time we skype.

i remember reading 'where the wild things are' with grandma when i was a little girl.

grandma and grandpa got a new dishwasher while we were there.  the old one had started to sound like a jet engine and made it difficult to hear people even a few feet away from you.  great grandma showed cody all kinds of fun things to do with the box.

it was a house with a window

a drum

and, just like this tube, a ramp for cars

they spent probably at least an hour over the next few days playing with that box together.

ryan cut a door when he came home from work, so it opened even more possibilities.

annie and i watch several of the same shows, so isaac and i spent a couple of nights each week over at annie's house watching 'castle' or 'csi: ny.'

luckily the storytime at the pima library was much better than in safford.  we made it over two times and had so much fun both times.  the librarian read one story, which cody listened oh-so-intently to of course,

and had a song and a fun craft that went along with it each time.

even though he spent most of his time sleeping, or helping dad sleep,

isaac became much more alert by the time we left.

and grandma was pretty thrilled to see a few sweet baby smiles before we left, as well.

we decided to head home a day earlier than planned since ryan had it off work.  cody loved to climb in the front seat with ryan any chance he got on the way home, usually when i was feeding isaac.

it has been so nice to have the whole weekend to get a few things in order before real life starts back up with a new rotation and lots of appointments this coming week!
