bonnie is one!!

it is hard to believe its already been a whole year since bonnie came!  she is such a happy, easy-going, content little girl.

she loves wearing sunglasses, especially if its sunny at all.

she's getting better and better at standing alone and cruising along anything she can touch.

she would wear her tutu or dress-up dress all day if we didn't take it off her.  she loves to dress-up 'pretty' - as she says.

if the food toys are out at all, you can find bonnie with the ice cream sandwich in her hand.  a girl after my own heart. :)

we tried out ant on a log for snack time one afternoon.  she already loves celery, so it was just made it better to add peanut butter and raisin, which she also loves.

pretty much anytime we go to the park, bonnie spends the whole time in the swing.  maybe once she's better at walking alone she can start exploring, but the swinging sure doesn't bother her!

i put this necklace on bonnie while i was getting ready one morning and she just crawled all over wearing it so she could hear it clink on itself and the tile.

for whatever reason, bonnie cannot crawl through the living room without crawling under the piano bench.  it cracks me up!

i set bonnie on this stool to keep her out of the cupboards.  she just thought she was the coolest thing ever.  she sat and kicked her legs so happily.

first taste of ice cream?

not so much

she woke up a bit earlier than everyone else on her birthday (we'll chalk it up to excitement) so she took some selfies with her dad

and then discovered one of her presents.  she talked to it,

gave it kisses,

read books with it,

but didn't actually try to take a ride until after the rest of us got up.

she, of course, had two great helpers to open the rest of her gifts.  she got a baby doll from mom and dad and a stroller from her brothers (pretty sure isaac not-so-secretly wanted it for himself)

grandma and grandpa bishop got her some new animals for our zoo.  we almost have them all now!

she also got books from david's family, the varga grandparents, and annie and a cute outfit from beth's family.  we're gonna have to work on the reading more.  although she is an expert page turner, she still likes to chew on pages from time to time.

she took lots of steps pushing her new baby around, but hasn't taken more than one on her own.

she tried riding again

but got right off to give kisses

and have a loud chat

we thought about making our usual peanut butter and chocolate cake, but i remembered a recipe i'd saved once for grapefruit infused cupcakes.  knowing how much bonnie loves grapefruit (if you say 'who loves grapefruit?' she'll wave her hand and sometimes say 'me'), we thought we'd give it a try.  she thought she must be in heaven when i let her have her teeny spatula with a taste of frosting one it.  she just kept handing it back to me for more.

to be honest, i thought they turned out fantastic.  the frosting was cream cheese with a bit of grapefruit essential oil which was very refreshing.

she had no idea what to do about the flame.

but had no problem digging in.

cupcakes worked out brilliantly since she's very familiar with muffins already.  looks the same :)

we ended the birthday with bathtime with the brothers, which she loves, so she was a very happy birthday girl.

her 1-year well child check was a couple of days after her birthday.  she came in at:

height - 30 inches (79th percentile)
weight - 20.6 lbs (60th percentile)
head - 18.25 inches (85th percentile)

they had to re-measure her head and her height when the first measurements put her under the 20th percentile, but this looks more right.  i hardly know what to do with a baby who is in the size of clothes that matches her age.  she is still tall, but not quite as big as the brothers yet!
