we have a beautiful new baby boy in our family!
i had a bit of an uncomfortable morning of watching soccer games with contractions off and on (mostly as i walked around), but they didn't stay very consistent. we got home from soccer and i went for a long walk which started getting some stronger contractions happening. it seemed like things were moving along a bit, so i called my mom to go ahead and come up. we watched the afternoon session of conference and the sitting down made the contractions nearly stop. i took another walk and we got some dinner ready in time for grandma to come.
ryan and i headed over to the hospital to discover i was just barely dilated and having small, inconsistent contractions (while sitting on the bed). there was no reason to admit me, so we went across the street to walk around wal-mart for an hour before they'd check me again. by the time we were walking back across the street to the hospital, i was bending down with pain from contractions. back in the bed for 20 minutes...nothing. they told us to wait another hour and since i was too tired to walk around for another hour of stronger contractions, i stood by the bed until a contraction came and then i'd sit. that seemed to move things along a little bit and we got admitted.
by the time we got to our room it was after 8 and i was pretty tired from walking and standing and sitting through contractions. i relaxed in the bed (while we watched 'arrow') and things slowed down a bit again. i did manage to get a little sleep before labor picked up again. i got an epidural and dr. richardson came to check my progress - which broke my water. it wasn't too much longer before we welcomed another little boy at 1:51 a.m. on october 1st. i probably could have kept things moving faster if i'd kept up and moving and we may have had a september baby, but we're pretty happy with how things turned out.
we got to snuggle our new boy for a couple of hours before they moved us out of labor and delivery to a regular room. we missed the morning session of general conference moving to our new room and slept through the afternoon session. between conference sessions, elder robert dean hales passed away. his name was part of the inspiration for a middle name. we talked a lot about a lot of different names on sunday and tried to incorporate a family name.
ryan: "what about tyler garrett?"
katie: "do you know i have a cousin named tyler garrett?"
ryan: "how about andrew garrett?"
katie: "i also have a cousin named andrew garrett."
we got a bit of a laugh about that. we narrowed it down to tyler dean or tyler scott and facetimed with the kids to get their opinion.
we finally settled on tyler dean varga. he was 7lbs, 3 oz (our smallest) and 21 inches long (our longest).
grandma berta brought the kids up for a visit on sunday evening. they all love tyler!
what a change to a family of 6!!
