we had a pretty great christmas out here in california this year.
the christmas festivities officially started (for me) by going to see 'the nutcracker' ballet with my former nursery buddy, liz.
i was in 'the nutcracker' in wyoming when i was in fourth grade, but haven't seen it since then. here i am with my good friends erica and kalee.
our family christmas adventuring began with a trip to the los angeles temple to see the christmas lights with the youth from our ward.
as we were getting ready to leave for the temple, the bishop gave us our prize from winning the halloween costume competition. cody thought it made a great snack - even if he couldn't get the wrapper off.
i finally made some stockings, from this tutorial, for our little family on the 23rd....not that i'm a procrastinator or anything.
christmas eve morning, we went for a short hike in the 70 degree weather to try out cody's new backpack carrier.
he had a great time checkin' everything out over dad's shoulders.
cody opened his christmas eve present first.
new jammies!
having rijst tafel for christmas eve dinner is a bishop family tradition that we carried on again this year. we invited our neighbors and one of ryan's classmates and his family over for dinner. it was nice to have more than just the two of us at the dinner table and enjoy some time with our 'california family.'
christmas morning started off with seeing what santa left in our stockings.
then after a fantastic breakfast....
and a quick family picture in our matching christmas pajamas...
we got to the presents under the tree. we let cody open all his first so he could take a nap before church. he got pretty good at pulling off the paper.
he was clearly more interested in the bows than his actual presents.
we got all dressed up in our red and white for church
and then had a relaxing sunday/christmas afternoon skyping with our families in texas, wyoming, and arizona and playing our new games. we missed being able to be with our families for the holidays, but it was fun to have our first christmas with our little family at our own home.

Oh. My. Goodness. I don't think I have a single picture of me during the Nutcracker that isn't from my parent's view from their seats (aka really far away). I'm so stealing the picture you posted. And I'm in love with your stockings and may have to steal that idea as well! Glad you had a good Christmas!
The backpack picture is BEAUTIFUL! What a sweet little boy. We missed you guys, but are glad you had a nice quiet Christmas together. Love the matching pjs and red/white Christmas church outfits.
