i can't hardly believe it, but our little boy is a year and a half old now. he is so fun to watch and interact with because it seems like he's learning new things every other second or so. he's such a smart kid, so snuggly and loving, a good helper, and a 'good helper' sometimes too...
yesterday was his first sunday in nursery. i let him pick one of ryan's old ties to make a neck-tie for himself. he loved wearing it and loved nursery. once he saw he could go in, he never turned back.
about the time all the girls were here visiting, cody's language just started exploding. i started making a list of all the things he could say and figured i would keep it up until he was 18 months and then stop, but i'll be honest - i stopped at about thanksgiving because it was getting to be so many all the time. he's not using all the words he knows all the time, but he's sure made a lot of progress in helping us understand what he wants. here are all the words we wrote down that he knows and the general frequency with which he uses them:
bag dog bunny beep duck uh-oh no yes yeah grandma cool grandpa dad mom molly annie giraffe moon ball shoes pumpkin pea bee cereal play please jacket bubbles door sun horse splash pull light pig fishy eat juice sheep story hoff go plate boat key call buh-bye hi hello turtle hat eyes elbow maddie circle star triangle oval bum more milk banana thank-you help-me mickey pluto excuse-me knock-knock there-it/he-is bread pancake backpack door lion the-end ladybug walk water swing slide dude bib mug off up thimble apple bike boo boom monkey balloon bathtime out book read-it hippo geese please butterfly hot cold nicole knife cookie potty oh-no
107 on this list...in case you wondered but didn't want to count.
he also can show you his:
eyes ears nose cheeks mouth teeth tongue hair head face hands fingers feet toes bum belly belly-button knee chest
and the sounds for:
gorilla monkey sheep goose mouse turkey bee snake donkey coyote bird lion tiger bear crocodile dinosaur dog cat fish cow owl pig 3-singing-pigs horse duck truck/car fire-truck airplane train
our neighbor, cora-lynne, is definitely his best friend. anytime we go outside to take a walk, cody leads us straight to their house. we watched cora-lynne one morning while her mom worked. they played so well together at our house. cody kept taking her by the hand and leading her around.
i even spotted him sneaking a kiss, but just missed catching it on camera.
he sure loves his daddy right now. any time ryan's in another room, cody is calling out his name to get him to come or looking around to go hang out with him. one of the first things he says after he wakes up (when i get him) is 'dad?' we're sure glad dad isn't leaving for any really long lengths of time again any time soon!
his latest development over the past few weeks is not only going on the potty, but even letting me know every once in a while that he's got to go. we're not pushing potty training too much yet, but i figure if he's willing and excited to go, then we will take full advantage!
we're so proud of our happy little boy!
and for those who missed cody's joke...
