cody has hit the two year mark! we can't quite believe he's a two-year-old now - even if most people are sure that he's almost three.
ryan's parents stayed a couple of days after we got moved in to help celebrate cody's birthday and marianne and capri came up to party with us a little as well.
he had a great time opening up all his presents with a little help from capri. it was fun to see him stop and play with each new thing for a couple of minutes and then get excited to see what was in the next box/bag.
when i asked cody what kind of cake he wanted, he just said 'green.' easy enough!
cody is really great at blowing on hot food and blowing bubbles, but i think seeing the candles burning so close to him was a little unfamiliar. he ended up needing some help from grandpa with blowing out the candles.
this face sums it up pretty well. he had a great day. i think he was more excited about the ice cream than anything else that day.
i'm a little behind posting about his birthday because i was waiting for his two-year well child check-up. the stats are:
height - 37.75 inches (off the chart)
weight - 35.5 pounds (off the chart)
head - 20.5 inches (off the chart)
as always - so big and tall.
we love our big two year old boy! he is so fun and entertaining. he loves to help with anything and everything and always wants to be a part of whatever is going on. he is a really great talker (which is another reason people think he is older than he really is).
he is really clever and comes up with creative solutions for things often. he turned this toy basket over and put in under his feet one day when he was sitting by me at the piano. it was so much easier for him to balance and play with the stool under him.
cody loves to sing. we sing a song to isaac before his naps and bedtime. i'll leave out the last word or two of each phrase and cody will finish it. sometimes he'll even sing along with me now, but not too often. i'm amazed at how many songs he knows. his favorite is probably 'i love to see the temple' or 'i am like a star.' sometimes when we're driving around i'll hear him singing songs to himself and doing the actions (like 'the wise man built his house upon the rock' on the way home from church).
bedtime/naptime has quite the ritual...
sing a song
lay down on the bed
fold monkey's arms around cora-lynne doll
put monkey and cora-lynne doll in the left arm
put dog in the right arm
have cody tell you to tell him to put his legs down
(which he has put up so you can tell him to put them down)
pull up sheet/blanket (with arms in)
tuck him in
tell him not to fall off of the bed
he's gotten really good about taking a nap (usually 2-3 hours) after lunch without much playing. bedtime is a bit of a different story. we can hear cody and isaac in their room talking and laughing for about an hour after 'bedtime' each night. they are usually pretty quiet and stay in their beds, so it doesn't bother me too much. cody still doesn't know that he can get out of bed of his own accord, so he'll stay in and call for us ('mom awake!') when he's up after nap or in the morning. he's even good at entertaining himself in the morning for a while now so i can sleep in to....that's right...seven o'clock on occasion.
i got a gym membership for a place in town and they have a kids area that isaac and cody hang out in for about an hour. luckily they love going. first thing after breakfast in the morning, cody says 'go gym!' and gets his shoes on. what better motivator could you have!
cody is pretty much completely potty trained (except at night). at around 18 months he was telling me when he had to go potty and i only changed about one dirty diaper a week. once isaac was born, there was a bit of regression. we kinda went back and forth during the day between big boys (or 'good boys' as it sounds when cody says it) for a while before we moved and it seemed like he was getting confused. i was going to just wait until after the move, but he just seemed ready so we switched over. even during the whole, long drive he stayed dry (in pull-ups....except once when he was riding with ryan in the truck and they were almost to sean and nicole's....).
