moving on

well, we made it through some long, long day on the road clear across the country to texas.  our gps said that from our home in california to our home in texas was exactly 24 hours.  that's a bit of a journey if you ask me.

we tried to do lots of packing on any day that we were home and not busy for weeks and weeks before moving so that we could drop everything to go do something fun without having to feel like we needed to be home getting things ready.

cody was mostly a good helper and at least left things in boxes when we asked him to.  he occasionally would even sit and entertain isaac for a bit.

we had a little toddler bed some friends handed down to us.  we never got around to using it for cody, but he was pretty fascinated with it.  he loved to lay on it with mom or dad or isaac.  we even let him try a nap on it a couple of times, but he just couldn't stay in bed long enough to get to sleep.

the cuff's took off just a couple of days before us.  they stopped by on their way out of town right about dinner time.  we convinced them to eat one last dinner with us instead of grabbing something on the road.  they've been such good med-school friends.  we can't wait to keep up with their residency experience in northern california and hear about their new baby!

we loaded up our truck on memorial day with more help than we could have ever imagined.  our ward was so good to us!  it helped that ryan was in the young men's and all the young men really liked him and wanted to be there to help....even if they weren't super helpful unless they had very direct instruction :)  we had enough help that everything was cleared out and cleaned by about noon.

cody loved the 'big truck' and was absolutely thrilled when we told him he could ride in the big truck with dad.

we stopped in tucson for the night and since we had a little time to kill, we relaxed all day tuesday at sean and nicole's.  we had a big varga family dinner that night and took off bright and early the next day.  ryan's parents drove the moving truck and we drove the car.  we traded off here and there over the couple of days it took to get out to conroe.

cody and isaac were such troopers.  isaac pretty much only cried when he was hungry and cody only complained about the long ride after our last stop for lunch.  we managed to bride him back into the car with promise of watching 'woody' in toy story.  he loved seeing trains all along our drive - as you can tell by his engineer hat, train, and train whistle.

it was interesting to watch the landscape change from desert to desert to desert and then to green!  its definitely different to be in a place with no mountains and thick greenery anywhere there isn't a building!
