after spending the morning and early afternoon at the children's museum, we walked across the street and down to the river walk. we sat on a low wall to eat a little lunch and then the boys cautiously checked out the water. no fish that we could see, but there were lots of duck.
from there we checked in to our hotel for a quick nap. after cody woke up, ryan shared some fruit snacks with him. since they were dinosaur shapes, ryan was trying to get cody to say what kind of dinosaur they were. he held one up and said 'this one's a yum-basaurus!' too funny :)
when everyone was feeling a bit more rested, we walked down to the alamo, which was just a mile or so from our hotel. we saw it as we came around a corner and may or may not have been completely shocked at how small it was.....how does that little fact never make it into any of the histories and movies? it was cool to see and learn a little more about our texas history though.
there was lots to read, but cody wasn't so interested so we just walked around the grounds. grandma bishop had told us about a big, big tree and some fish, so we went on the hunt. cody asked to have his picture taken by this cannon.
we found the fish in a little channel around the gardens behind the alamo. they were huge!
the gift shop was full of fun stuff like a davy crockett hat.
cody tried to convince me he wanted a sucker until i showed him the scorpion inside.
we did let him pick a pressed penny to take home - cheapest souvenir ever!
we got tickets for a boat tour of the river walk before it got dark. it was a fun tour with lots of cool tid-bits about san antonio and the area. we learned that even though there are some tall buildings across the street from the alamo, engineers worked to design them all such that no shadow is cast on the alamo at any time of the year.
the boys were so good for the boat tour (as some nice british ladies told us as we got off). amazing what a box of raisins can do.
we found a really awesome bbq restaurant for dinner on the river walk.
it started getting dark on our walk back to the hotel, but cody asked specifically to have us take a picture of this church all lit up. i wish our picture could have done justice to how pretty it really was.
