there's a first time for everything

warning - graphic pictures.  don't go too far if you have a weak stomach...maybe three pictures in...

we had a bit of a rough day today.  it started when i was in the office and heard a terrible crash on the other end of the house followed by a crying baby.  i ran into the kitchen and found this stoneware all over the floor and drops of blood.  i grabbed bonnie off the floor and saw that she'd cut her leg pretty bad.  i grabbed a towel to put pressure on it and called our neighbor to see if she'd come over.  luckily she was able to come right away and although she couldn't drive us, she got her husband over here to take us down to the hospital.

it was a preschool day, so luckily everyone was dressed with shoes on.  i was originally going to take porter to preschool with us, but cami said she'd take the boys for me.  we dropped them off and then headed down to meet ryan by the emergency room.  all the way there, i just held bonnie on my lap.  she was actually happy as could be and played peek-a-boo most of the drive.  ryan took a look and thought we could just go to the clinic for some stitches.

first thing they did was clean it, which bonnie didn't like much.  she really didn't like when she touched it, just to see what it was i guess?  once that was done, she sat with me pretty happily.  she had some anesthetic ointment on for a while, so we had to find ways to stay entertained.

here's the cut post cleaning and numbing.

dr. ibraham was the attending available when we came in, but he convinced ryan to do the stitches.

they did one long stitch in the middle to hold everything together and then removed it at the end, so she ended up with 11 stitches.

she cried through about the first half of stitching, mostly because she didn't like them holding her leg down.  i started singing 'my bonnie lies over the ocean' and she calmed down.  i'm sure everyone got sick of it by the 15 millionth time i sang it.  i didn't want to start crying myself, so it was better just to stick to the one song.

dr. ibraham had ryan wrap this gauze around and around her leg to keep bonnie from getting to the stitches.  it didn't seem to bother her and she kept it on just fine as she crashed in the car and slept through transferring her to her bed at home.  i had to wake her up to go get cody from preschool, so she was wide awake while the boys napped.  as soon as she started crawling, the gauze came right off.  i used what i could find at home to keep it covered until ryan got home with some coban to wrap it with.

she's been pretty happy so far.  i was worried that she'd get to be pretty grumpy once the shots wore off, but there wasn't much change.  hopefully everything heals well.  for now, we're just keeping it covered and keeping bonnie in pants to keep her away from it.  as long as she doesn't see it, it doesn't seem to bother her.  our first kid with stitches, and i'm sure she won't be the last knowing some of the varga stories.  she definitely went big.  stitches out next monday!

AAAUUGGHH!! That is traumatizing! :( What a trooper, though, and it's cool that Ryan was able to stitch it. I guess ya'll will see how he did based on what the scar looks like. ;)
