christmas 2016

we had quite a different and eventful christmas this year.  we started out with caroling with our neighbors, the tiptons on friday night.  it was pretty chilly and dark, but fun to share some christmas joy around the neighborhood.

saturday morning, we got the house all cleaned and then headed over to a school nearby where the men from our ward were meeting up for christmas eve football.  it was funny to see the clear, blue sky knowing the forecast was for snow, but within an hour we watched the clouds speed in and cover everything.

the kids played on the playground for a while until we all just got too cold.

we went home, made some cookies, had bathtime, took a little nap, finished christmas preparations and then around 4:30 isaac came downstairs complaining that his arm hurt.  this being about the third or fourth time he'd come down crying, i didn't believe him much (he and cody both 'cry wolf'' pretty regularly).  he told me he couldn't lift and and laid on the couch wimpering for a while.  i finally had him go get ryan to take a look and he thought we should go get an x-ray.  isaac really didn't want to go, even when we said he wouldn't be able to open presents ('someone else can open them for me')  isaac finally agreed and wanted me to go with him, so off we went to the er.

he loved rudolf the red-nosed finger.

we had a bit of time to hang out, got some x-rays, hung out, found out the arm was broken - both the radius and ulna

and finally got a splint.  after the splint, we had to wait the longest chunk to get discharged and isaac was more than ready to go home.  meanwhile, ryan, cody, and bonnie had made and eaten dinner.  isaac and i walked out of the er into about 3 inches of snow and then had to drive home through the storm.  we unwrapped our christmas jammies, grabbed some quick food, and got everyone tucked into bed.

isaac woke up hurting around 3:30 a.m.  i could tell he wasn't feeling good because he didn't even care about all the stuff from santa sitting around.  through all the er time and since, he hasn't even cried at all.  he's been such a trooper.  bonnie woke up with a fever around 4:30 and just wanted to be held for a while, so ryan and i were pretty much just up from that point on.  the kids got up just before 7 and were so excited.  i could hardly wait to check out the view from our window, knowing it had been snowing all night!

since bedtime was a little harried, we snapped a jammie picture in the morning (the sling isaac ended up using is the one i made him for halloween a year ago).

its always so fun to watch the discovery of what's in the stockings.

we opened stockings and one present that had some new church clothes in it and then had our traditional first breakfast of dinosaur oatmeal.  since we had church at 9, we saved our real traditional christmas breakfast for monday morning.

we got a quick picture in our winter wonderland before going to church.  isaac had to wear cody's old christmas sweater vest since he couldn't get his sweater over his splint.

we just had sacrament meeting since it was christmas, so we came home and got back into our jammies.  bonnie's fever started raging again, so she made it through a couple more presents and then just wanted to get in her bed.  luckily she is too little to really mind that she's missing out.

we opened all the rest of our presents.  cody got his astronaut costume from santa, isaac got a jumbo world map puzzle, and bonnie got an iron and ironing board.  the kids also got a new kitchen for the playroom.

i didn't end up taking many pictures, but cody wouldn't let me miss taking a picture of his lego creation made from the legos the will's gave us.

we spent the afternoon checking out our new toys and grandma, grandpa, and great grandma arrived in time for dinner. we had our traditional cornish game hens.  grandma brought some crackers, so we all got a crown and a toy.

ryan had monday off, so we did more playing.  the boys finally made it out into the snow.  even isaac wanted to go out and play with his poor little splinted arm tucked into his coat.  bonnie was mostly over her fevers, but still quite a momma's girl.

we sang 'christmas is upon us' in all combinations

and bonnie found a chopstick to lead the music with.  she cracks us up.

i called on tuesday to see about scheduling isaac's ortho appointment.  they called back within the hour and had us come right in.  isaac went from splint to green cast.

they took another couple x-rays and you can see the break a bit clearer.

isaac filled his behavior jar, so we took advantage of having grandparents at home with the other kids and went to lunch on our way home from casting.  dad couldn't join us, but we took him some food too.

tuesday was also our 10 year anniversary!!  we went out to dinner and then went to the temple with mom, dad, and grandma.  we got a whole bunch of sealings done from my family names.

it was so fun to have family up visiting for most of the week.  our kids adore their grandparents and great grandma and had so much fun playing with them!
