ryan's calling right now is in the young men's presidency. he's over the deacons. a few months ago, the boys decided they wanted to have a soap box derby race.
each quorum built their car in secret, which resulted in several tuesday night activities hosted in our garage which resulted in this little 'beauty.'
after said 'beauty' sat in our garage for several weeks, they finally set a date for the race and it was held last saturday on a secluded, low-traffic hill. as hard as it may be to imagine, i worried a bit for the safety of the boys riding in the races. cody and i made sure we attended the races to document and assist, if necessary. luckily there was only one minor accident resulting in a slightly sprained ankle and a scraped up elbow.
the priests created this 'chariot' for their car.
by far the coolest car was built by the teachers out of old bicycles and even equipped with a smoke bomb. it was the envy of all and everyone wanted a turn to try it out.
the clear winner in every races was the bicycle car. for the final race, they tried to make it a little more interesting. the teachers had to start way back from the starting line so they'd have to push up a slight hill before hitting the downhill slope.
the other cars started partway down the hill a few seconds before the teachers even took off.
but the teachers still came from way behind on the outside and took the win.
after the race we had a big bbq at the young men's president's house. the boys are so funny to watch and listen to. they all love cody, so its fun to see them play with him. all in all, a very unexpectedly fun activity.
(and proof that ryan does more than go to school all the time)
