i'll be honest. the part of our trip i was most looking forward to was stopping by the tillamook cheese factory. thank you to annie for flying out of portland so we went far enough north into oregon to justify going.
i discovered tillamook ice cream a few months ago at winco. we tried chocolate peanut butter first. and i know this sounds crazy to all you who worked at baskin robbins, but it was better than peanut butter and chocolate. i'm a little hooked. we even got a half gallon of udderly chocolate (like world class chocolate) while in bend and ate it all in one night.
so anyway, the cheese factory.
the factory is just a self-guided tour where you can watch the workers from above. several of the workers loved cody and waved and waved to him. we had plenty of samples along the way. after our tour, we took an ice cream break and sampled a few new flavors. we even let cody have his first taste of ice cream.
bit of a shock with the cold, but he immediately asks for more - and ice cream lover, just like his momma.
before we left, we took a ride in the baby loaf.

cody got quite a kick out of driving and honking the non-existant horn.
we continued down the oregon coast from there spending most of our day with a very wet view.
here's our first view of the ocean. we never did end up stopping to see how cold the water was. i'm pretty sure i can imagine.
our next stop was the yaquina (yah-'kwin-a) bay lighthouse. we had a hard time pronouncing it since we wanted to add the southwestern/spanish 'key' sound to the 'q.'
cody wasn't allowed up in the lighthouse, so ryan and i had to take turns climbing the flights and flights of stairs.
the view from the top was pretty awesome.
but then again, so was the view from the bottom.
there are supposed to be some really cool tide pools just below the lighthouse, but we happened to be there at high tide. we did see a seal and her baby from a distance hanging out on the rocky beach. it was fun to hear the clattering rocks every time the tide went out.
we stayed just north of the oregon/california border on wednesday night.
