oregon

we headed up to oregon on sunday.  we tried to stop every once in a while to stretch our legs and let cody move around a bit.  we stopped at a great viewpoint for mount bachelor.

ryan and i went on a walk when we got to the resort on sunday night.  we saw a deer walking right through the cabins and about six or seven families of geese ranging from three to about 20 goslings.

our resort, near bend, had lots of fun stuff to do.  there was a pool, hot tub, sauna, arcade, game room, and fitness center which we didn't end up using.  there were games you could check out, so we tried a few out.

our favorite perk was the bikes we had available.

on monday, we packed a picnic and went out to explore.

we stopped by the stables and the marina (neither of which seemed open)

we had lunch near the nature center and observatory.  cody did the whole nature walk without having to be carried.

the nature center seemed like it probably did some kind of bird presentation when its the 'on season,' but we just got to see this one eagle as we walked.

cody was mesmerized by the fireplace.  we were sure glad to have it since our bike rides got a little chilly.

we didn't bring a booster seat for cody and were having a hard time keeping him on someone's lap for meals.  we discovered one morning that he just wanted to sit on his own chair and then he did just fine - sitting up like a big boy.  we loved having a kitchen so we could make our own food while we were there.

we went for one last ride before it was time to check out.

don't be fooled by the beautiful sunny day, it was freezing.  we had to make it a quick ride cuz cody was not so thrilled about the wind.

annie flew out of portland on tuesday afternoon.  we got to portland a little earlier than planned, so we all went to the national sanctuary of our sorrowful mother, or 'the grotto,' for lunch and a walk.  its basically a big garden with statues of saints and an outdoor chapel.

after we dropped annie off at the airport (and then went back to drop off her kindle), we went to washington park to see the international rose test garden.  all the colorful plants are not roses, but you can see the rows of rose bushes.

i would bet that the rose gardens are just beautiful in another month or two when everything is blooming.  i managed to snap a picture of one of about seven roses we saw while we were there.

this is how cody looked anytime we'd let him walk around.  he thinks its the greatest thing ever!
