we started off our trip on a friday. we stopped in bakersfield to have dinner with our friends, the scott's, and got to meet their brand new little boy.
it was a nice way to break up our trip to san jose, where we stopped for the night. we stayed with my uncle brad and his family. it was fun to see a bunch of cousins all grown up (i haven't seen most of them for at least 6 or 7 years). they were so good at entertaining cody with all kinds of new toys and us with lots of new games.
uncle brad took cody all around outside to show him the swing, garden, yard, and dog.
ryan was in heaven with a dog to play around with. hopefully he's come to terms with the fact that we will never have a dog of our own.
uncle brad gave cody a potato from the garden and cody carried it around for at least an hour. we cooked it for him to have for lunch.
cody was so good at patting the dog and especially liked to talk to her through the sliding glass door in the kitchen.
annie flew in to san jose on saturday and spent a few days with us. we headed up to san francisco after we picked her up. we stopped by the boudin sourdough factory and picked up a loaf of bread to save for dinner. they make some pretty amazing shaped breads like turtles and crocodiles, but we just went with a normal round loaf.
we saw alcatraz from a distance,
checked out a wwii ship and submarine,
and went to the mechanical museum where they had these crazy mirrors and lots of old arcade-type games and toys.
while looking for a place for dinner we passed the 'crown and crumpet tea salon.' it was like a real life tea party. i'm sure caitlin, ashlee, bailey, and maddie would have loved going there with grandma and grandpa.
we walked through the ghiradelli shop long enough to get a free sample...mmmmm
our cousin, marianne, and her family (landon and capri) met up with us in san francisco. we had a great dinner at an italian place in little italy.
i love that cody's actually looking and smiling in that picture! poor kid was pretty worn out after a long afternoon and even got a bit of a sunburned head.
