a knock in the face

we had a busy saturday.

we started off the day with mormon helping hands.  cody got all dressed up in some old clothes to help with painting.

ryan helped a family in our ward move and then took a friend to the airport in l.a.

we thought we'd have a nice relaxing afternoon and then go over to play dice with some friends after cody went to bed and a sitter came over.

instead, cody fell face first onto his step stool in the kitchen and came up with a mouth full of blood.  upon further examination, we saw that he'd knocked one of his front teeth backward into his mouth.  we pretty frantically called our dental student friend to get some recommendations, then called the western dental clinic where cody's been seen before.  basically they said to not touch it and bring him in on monday.

by the time we got through with phone calls, cody was calmed down, took a bath, and went to bed pretty easily.  since playing dice with friends was actually a ploy to get ryan over to the raddon's house for a surprise graduation party, i pushed to still go - since cody was acting pretty normal (for having a cold, getting some molars, and smashing his face).

we had a great time celebrating with friends from our ward.  amazingly, ryan had no idea about the party.  i thought for sure he'd catch on sometime.  we snacked and mingled and spent a couple of hours playing 'mafia.'

cody was terribly sensitive on sunday in nursery.  he burst into tears if someone looked at him wrong.  for good reason i guess.  he was feeling pretty crummy.

i took cody to the dentist on monday morning.

it was pretty traumatic for him.  he fought and fought against having them take x-rays.  they'd finally get him positioned with his open, crying mouth and he'd say 'cheese' right at the last minute for the 'picture' and make it blurry.  we survived the appointment. it seems like the tooth is about in the best position it could be.  he has a pretty good underbite, so it doesn't interfere with that.  its tipped away from the growing adult tooth.  and as the swelling has gone down the past few days, it seems to be righting itself just a little anyway.

he's been pretty camera shy, for good reason, but i got a few pictures that show the damage.

i even got a good cheesy shot in the end.
