time in mesa

while we were in arizona, the new gilbert lds temple was having its open house.  it's not too often that we have a chance to go to an open house, so we snatched up tickets early and went with lots of the varga crew and annie (who live just a few miles away).

it's definitely a special experience to take little ones through the temple and talk about the sacred, special things that happen inside.  this is definitely a beautiful temple.

after the temple, we met ryan's grandparents for lunch at arby's.  esperanza (ryan's grandpa's second wife) has been fighting cancer for years and doesn't often feel well enough to go out, so it was a special treat to have her join us.  we weren't sure what to do with some extra time we had after lunch, but grandpa suggested we drive down to aunt belinda's 'farm' - which ended up being so much fun!

they have several citrus trees and with oranges in season, we filled many grocery bags of oranges for everyone.  they were so delicious!

all the little boys were great helpers - as little boys always are ;)

they have a few very noisy cows on their property.  cody loved saying hi.  it was a great way to break in his cowboy boots marching through the mud around their corral.

i am quite positive that i never would have let cody get this dirty when he was just a year old.  my how things change with the second time around.  isaac had a great time playing and crawling in the dirt.

and he also loved the dog.  he could have sat petting her all day long if she'd stayed close enough to him.

we definitely treasure each chance we have to see ryan's grandparents since they may not be with us too much longer!  what a great, fun, relaxing afternoon!!

we headed back up to annie's house when everyone scattered from belinda's house.  we had dinner and hung out a little bit before bedtime.  we went on a little walk in the morning to check out the playground in annie's neighborhood.  there's a little 'track' that you might have to walk around 30 or so times to get to half a mile and some places to exercise along the way.  cody did all the exercises with his dad.

when we left annie's, we did a quick winco stop (i miss winco terribly) and then headed over to have lunch with some flagstaff/california friends who now live in mesa - the hummels.  its been so fun to keep up with them from all the different places we've both lived.  we just keep running into each other :)

we headed back to thatcher during naptime.  we spent a couple more (picture-less) days there - with ryan this time - and then headed home.  we decided to take the trip in two days.  you lose two hours driving back to the east and since its already 15 hours, that makes it seem like forever.  the second day, we decided to branch off of i-10 and go through some of texas' hill country.  it was so beautiful!  i'm pretty sure i'm ready to move to fredericksburg tomorrow.  i checked their job listings and they have plenty of openings for physicians.... maybe in a few years.
