visiting the varga crew

after a week and a half without our dad, we were able to pick him up in tucson and have him with us for our last week in arizona.  he flew in late saturday night, so we stayed with sean and nicole and then drove down to sierra vista in time for family pictures and then church on sunday.

after dinner, we got to celebrate isaac's birthday again - since his dad was actually around.  grandma got him an awesome ice cream cake (he was careful not to request mint ice cream).

he wasn't really much more interested in this cake than he was in the brownie cake at grandma bishop's house, but he ate some.

what he really needed was some lessons from these two who in their great, old age of nearly two know how to eat a birthday cake :)

cody was more than willing to help open some presents.

we mostly just spent time hanging out with everyone while down in sierra vista on monday morning.  which is clearly quite exhausting.

aunt nicole managed to keep the kids entertained most of the time.

monday afternoon we headed up to the reid park zoo.  we have gone several times while in arizona, but it is the perfect size for our little boys and we love it!

isaac was pretty riveted by some of the animals

and others were pretty riveted by him!  this monkey came down from his tree to look at isaac and give him a little high five before climbing back up.  it was pretty awesome.

we were a little disappointed to miss the elephants, but there were some fun things to do near their enclosure.

my favorite animal is the giraffe.  we couldn't convince them to stick around for our photo op though.

there's a little playground about halfway through the zoo that's a perfect stopping point.

the boys all had a great time helping each other get drinks from the frogs.

after the zoo, grandma grabbed some dinner and we went to the park near aubrey's house to have dinner all together with some play time for the kids.

we hung out at aunt aubrey's house on tuesday.  the boys all had a great time playing in the back yard while the adults chatted and caught up on life.

isaac figure out how to do the slide and thought it was a-ma-zing.

we didn't have any kind of booster seat at sean and nicole's house.  we tried holding isaac for a couple of meals, but discovered he did quite well if he could just sit up at the table like a big boy.  still a bit messy, but not all over whoever was holding him!

ever night we were at sean and nicole's, cody read 'house of the lord' (a pop-up book about temples) and then calvin and hobbes.  we caught him sitting like this several times while we were there.  his uncle david would be so proud!
