the ward we moved in to has an annual elders' quorum activity called 'guns and guts.' basically, they set up several areas with targets and different levels of guns and shoot things all day. families are invited, so we all decided to check it out. someone was nice enough to lend us some ear protection for when we were closer to the shooting.
bonnie and i mostly just hung around with the elders' quorum president's wife, vanessa, and helped get the food ready. her little girl, harley, who is about seven took right to isaac. she was like his little mother all day long and i never had to worry about where he was. cody ran around with some of the older boys and played zombie games most of the time.
i've never shot a gun, so i figured i'd try it out once. the guy by me is our neighbor, scott. he's a trained police office, but has since retired from that is a constable. he worked in tempe about 15 years ago and was shot several times by a guy. its a pretty amazing story. anyway, he is a great teacher and helped each of us try out something. i shot a little hand gun. people just love going out to shoot guns, but i guess i don't see the excitement in it....
isaac tried out one of the big air soft guns
and cody tried the same gun i used.
ryan had the time of his life and stayed hours after the rest of us left.
at the end of the day, everyone took aim at a huge box-style tv that had been left in our garage. it had been filled with some kind of explosive, so it was quite a sight once it was blown up!
