the first field trip of the year happened today for isaac's preschool. the 14 member class, plus at least one sibling for each kid and almost every parent, toured the police and fire stations in show low.
the police station was a bit less than exciting for the kids as it was mostly just office spaces. they did take us into the room where they receive the 9-1-1 calls. learning how they handle that was cool.
after the inside tour was done, they showed us the transport van they use to move criminals from place to place. the kids couldn't get inside or anything, but it was interesting to see.
we had a little time to kill in between, so the kids played at the playground in between the fire and police stations. then we headed to the fire station next.
first thing, they told us about their truck and let all the kids climb inside. (there's isaac's friends kimber and colt).
a lot of the kids got help climbing down, but isaac insisted on getting down those big steps on his own.
here's the whole class, plus several siblings. it reminded me so much of the trips we used to take to the willis fire station during story time. we lined up the kids on the front of the fire truck each year and watched them grow and change :)
then we went inside the big garage and one of the older fire fighters (who usually just does stuff like this now) did a little presentation for the kids about fire safety. he was so great and made it really understandable for the kids. after he got all his gear on, every one of them gave him a big high five.
i kept bonnie in the ergo for most of the trip to keep her out of the way, but i let her get down for the presentation and she just sat so nice like all the big kids.
shelly had to go to a meeting, so i brought kimber home with us and then we had a little tea party when shelly came. shelly and chet went to nau with us and moved back here about the same time we did. its been fun to reconnect and have our kids like to hang out. isaac and kimber had a little tea party at kimber's house a couple weeks ago that got kimber in a bit of trouble (as they'd used her grandma's tea set, set the whole thing up on a pillow and book, and used a lot of water), so i promised her we'd have a real tea party at our house. she's been asking me every time i see her, so i'm glad we could finally work it out - fancy clothes and all.
