for at least a year we've had my parents on alert that they'd be watching our kids for a week after graduation while we went on a little celebratory get away. we played with several ideas, but settled on a cruise in the caribbean. sean and nicole worked out to go with us.
mom and dad came up on friday so that we could get away saturday morning around breakfast time. it was lovely to fly without any kids on my lap. we actually headed back to houston to cruise out of galveston.
we met up with sean and nicole at the airport and checked into a hotel just down the road. we didn't have any transportation, so we decided to walk down the road to get some dinner at a pho restaurant. not the best, but we topped it off with shakes from denny's next door before we walked back to the hotel in the dark...in a sketchy area...
we caught a bus down to galveston in the morning and had a bit of time before we needed to board the ship, so we stopped at la kings for some ice cream.
we happened to be there when they were doing a taffy demonstration. it was so fun to watch. we stayed long enough to make a few videos to show the kids and get a root beer taffy sample. i don't love taffy, but fresh is pretty tasty.
we boarded just in time to do a drill for emergencies and then watched as we pulled out of the bay.
we just read a book that had a pilot car, so i took a picture of our pilot boat for the boys.
we saw a few bunches of dolphins as we were leaving port.
when we came down for dinner, we realized the boys were dressed exactly the same. funny how similar they are. nicole and i realized how happy their mother would be to see them getting along and actually wanting to spend time together several times during the week.
