on wednesday we drove down to phoenix and ate breakfast in the car so we could get to the phoenix children's museum. we haven't been for a few years, so everything was new and exciting. bonnie could hardly even focus on one thing before she was ready to run off to the next.
they have a line of mirrors with face painting materials. the attendants said the kids are encouraged to do their own art, so cody did a ghost on his hand and isaac did a monster on his cheek.
i think this dark little corner was isaac's favorite thing. he built so many fun creations with these magnets and wanted to stay and stay.
we finally convinced him to move on and found a cozy place to ready some books. we had left bonnie and dad at the toddler play area, but they caught up with us as we finished our third book.
we all headed over to the project/art room. cody made a spooky tree out of a paper bag.
while bonnie and dad made a day of the dead skull.
isaac and i worked on making a tarantula. he was so careful with the sawdust!
he named his spider 'scopula' (which is what the hairs on a spider's legs are called - we just checked out a book about spiders from the library...)
bonnie made one too and then i had to carry two spiders and a skull the rest of the day.
at the entrance is a huge climbing creation. we decided to skip it at the beginning since it was pretty crowded, but cody couldn't wait to go back. bonnie loved climbing all over it too!
they climbed until we were ready for lunch. after we ate at their little cafe, we tried the outside activities. bonnie loved the little slide.
and then she chased the pigeons around pretty much the rest of the time we were outside.
once we went back in, the boys found this fun bike track. they took turns riding all different kinds of bikes. i caught cody giving isaac a ride.
and then isaac giving bonnie a ride. that bike didn't turn so well, so he had a hard time getting it through the car wash. he finally figured out he just needed to do a bigger turn.
we sure wore ourselves out
we left mid-afternoon and headed to our hotel. we took a few minutes to just relax and then grabbed some pizza to take to the farnsworth's house for dinner. its funny that everyone from residency stayed in texas except for our two families and instead we both ended up in arizona! it was so fun to catch up with them after not seeing them all summer.
we had meant to go swimming at our hotel (kind of a big reason for staying at a hotel), but we got back too late and everyone was so exhausted after no naps and staying up. we ended up getting a nice little suite so bonnie got a space of her own and we all slept pretty well. i think the most exciting part for the kids was the continental breakfast where they could pick from so many fun choices to eat. :)
