there's always so many pictures that don't quite make up a whole post for themselves, so here's that random bits and pieces of october around our house.
on the 7th, i did my first non-pigtail hair-do in bonnie's hair.
and on the 30th, i even ventured to do a braid. and so it begins, in a very small beginningish way. someday she'll have more hair, but progress is progress. unfortunately i did this braid for church just to see if i could, then i took it out to add a little gel to keep it in and could not get it to work again. at least i got a picture right. it happened!
i went outside one afternoon and found that the boys had dumped dirt over each other's heads and covered the driveway with rocks.
i may have been a little irked... i did make them sweep/clean all the rocks off the driveway and then strip down in the garage before coming inside.
you can see the dirt all over cody's back and his boots were filled!
the saturday of fall break, the fire department in pinedale did a pancake breakfast before the community service day. i couldn't believe how many pancakes and waffles our little family ate. they obviously didn't have any boosters, but bonnie did remarkably well sitting up in a big chair. i think she was the only kid who didn't spill her drink.
this little girl's first day of nursery was on the 9th (with the way stake and general conference fell). isaac was as excited as anyone and made sure to let us know he would take good care of her and set her a chair at the end for snacks. they had a great time i'm sure.
i started up a book club a month or two ago. i had talked to a few people who were interested, so i took the leap and set the first meeting. its been so fun and we have such good discussion each month! this was the book i picked for october at my house. it is definitely one of my very favorite books.
i got donuts and bottles of coke for the book club snacks (part of the book) and had to laugh because i started a challenge group for health and fitness that day. definitely not the kind of shopping i should have been doing! don't worry, i didn't actually eat any of it.
we keep finding these little caterpillars in our garage/on the driveway. any ideas on what they are?
we stayed one night of our fall break with annie and she had one of the young women babysit for us while we went to the temple. the cute girl wrote up this note for us. i wish she lived here!
i discovered henry weinhart's rootbeer is sold at safeway here. david has been quite put out that they can't find it anywhere in texas, so i sent him a picture to gloat. he came back with a picture of blue bell ice cream in their freezer. touche.
in doing the painting of the downstairs rooms, we decided to pull out the baseboards and paint them. there were the two downstairs bedrooms, plus isaac's room (that didn't even have enough baseboards installed), and the media room that had baseboards that had been installed without being painted first. it got to be lots of baseboards, so i had to get a little creative on how to paint them all in the garage. ladder ball it is! makes a great little stand.
as i got all the baseboards sanded and prepped, isaac and bonnie played in the driveway and yard. they rode their bikes for about two minutes (hence the helmets) and then played a million other things for about two more hours. they crack me up how they just keep their helmets on pretty much the whole time they're ever outside. their aunt annie must be rubbing off on them - safety first!
cody got great grades, so we took the family out for a celebratory dinner at charlie clark's (we also happened to have a gift certificate we've been saving for such an occasion). again, cody insisted i take a picture of all of them on this chair. obviously the other two weren't so interested.
grandma berta came up for a couple of days near the end of the month to do a pampered chef party for me. not too many people actually came to the party, but it was way more successful that i'd expected and the party was so fun!
grandma took the kids out to play in the yard. bonnie found each piece of the t-ball set, got it all set up, and started trying to hit the ball off it. it was pretty hilarious to watch and impressive that she even knew what to get and how to do it!
trying on grandma's shoes
later in the week, we left ryan home to work on the bedrooms and went down to thatcher to see fall sing. its been a long time since i last got to see a show and it was great! so fun to remember my time in the eac choirs.
grandma took the kids out to help in the garden. she clipped off big pieces of the tomato plants and bonnie pulled off all the ripe tomatoes. she was actually the best helper of the bunch as the boys didn't last too long.
isaac has been cracking me up lately. he asked me to take a picture of him 'like this' with the hula hoop i let him pick out at the dollar store. he proceeded to come up with these crazy ideas. 'mom, what if our house was made of bubbles? we'd pop them and float away. mom, what if our house was made of hair? it would catch all our food!'
after the above picture, he proceeded to roll around in a circle like this. over and over and over. goof ball!
cody lost his first tooth on the 30th. it happened after the primary program in primary and i guess he caused quite a stir because several kids told their parents about it and i heard it from them too. we told him we'd be going to chet and shelly's for dinner (chet is our dentist) and he'd probably pull it out for him, but no such luck. cody got it out himself!
