the biennial bishop family reunion took place in flagstaff arizona this year. we've somehow been lucky enough to live in pretty close proximity to every reunion we've had so far, but i'm hoping we stay put in show low for a while and have to travel great distances instead.
annie was in charge of this reunion and found a great house for us on the north end of flagstaff. everyone pulled in on sunday afternoon to start the festivities. i love this picture with isaac in the corner on grandma's lap. he loves his grandmas on both sides of our family and spends most of his time snuggling up with them.
sunday night was the first and only time we sat with kids and adults interspersed together between the two tables. we learned after this meal that everything went quite smoothly to have the kids together at the round table and adults at the long one.
i was rather impressed at the kids behavior together!
monday morning was a bit relaxed. we had lots of hair doing. i didn't even see this happen, but molly was doing bonnie's hair.
maddie comes up with all sorts of ways for me to do her hair. i love the challenge and adventure of it.
mom and dad got everyone flag shirts to wear for a flag presentation we did later on.
mom put together several projects to make. jean pocket utensil holders,
and flag/patriotic signs
which we took to a group home in the area. we did a little program about flags (for flag day) and david sang the national anthem for them. it was fun to get to know the people who lived in the house. they were so appreciative.
the rest of the day was even more relaxed so there was plenty of time for 'jump the snake'
dance parties by the grill
horseshoes,
coloring,
ping pong,
movie watching (for non-nappers....or those who probably actually needed a nap)
and general playing with cousins
later in the afternoon, we pulled out paints and decorated hot dog roasters david and julie made for everyone.
as people finished, isaac took them outside and "planted" them. it did look like a bit of a colorful garden when we were done.
we ended the evening with family home evening. annie gave an awesome lesson with a great activity along with it that kept the kids enraptured. and dad told us a story about one of our ancestors who was in the martin handcart company.
