tuesday was our day at the grand canyon. we split the adults up into two groups. chris, annie, julie, david, and ryan drove up early to do some real hiking (ryan was the only one who's hiked the grand canyon before).
beth, the grandparents, and i drove two mini vans with 10 kids to catch the grand canyon railway.
there was a shoot-out to watch as we waited for the train. they cowboys were so fun to watch.
not everyone loved the shooting, but we had fun.
we rode in one of the historic pullman cars. the seat backs could move to make the seats face each other with was much more fun. the kids thought it was quite an adventure.
near the end of our journey, a cowboy stopped in to sing to us. he was great and cody especially love it.
the hikers met up with us as soon as we got to the park and we found a picnic table to eat lunch. we had to do a bit of hiking just to get to the edge of the canyon after that.
we made extra sure that every kid had several adult eyes on them so that we wouldn't lose anyone over the edge as we walked the rim trail. dad's scooter bit the dust on the first incline, so he missed the hike.

bonnie was pretty exhausted by the time we finished lunch and crashed in the backpack
we read something about the 'battleship' and cody insisted i take his picture by it. he also bought a post card with the battleship on it (as well as drew pictures of it to send to other friends) to send to olivia and kate.
the hikers took the kids back on the train. pretty much no one slept even though we were sure they'd all be exhausted. there was a robbery on the train ride home, so that caused a lot of excitement. i think isaac was the most terrified.
we stopped at another vantage point on the way back to flagstaff in the car. the grand canyon is pretty amazing from any angle.
it was so fun to go to the grand canyon with everyone. we were all pretty exhausted by the time we got back to the house.
sleeping arrangements were fun at the house. beth and chris had the biggest room with two queens in it, so they slept in one queen, annie and caitlin slept in the other, ashlee and molly slept in the hide-a-bed, and bailey and maddie slept on the floor.
ryan and i had a room with two queens for our family and david and julie had a room with one for them and their two littles.
the house had these huge cups that ryan and chris liked to use for root beer floats.
