we had this great plan for cody's birthday trip to the space center. lesley hersom was going to watch bonnie and ryan got work off so we could take the two boys. last night, isaac and bonnie both started throwing up. no fun! we don't really have time left in texas to try to go a different day, so ryan agreed to stay home with the sick kids while i got to go spend the day with just cody.
first thing cody saw when we got there was the penny machine. he made one for him and one for isaac.
i loved watching how his fingers danced over the buttons like he was really controlling the space ship.
a real life astronaut did a presentation about his experience with building the international space station (front right guy). it was really interesting, but cody got a little antsy by the end.
right outside the auditorium, they had a science experiment set up. there were materials to make some kind of thing to launch a little pom pom.
i think i got about 8 feet.
we moved through exhibits pretty quickly. cody laid back for a launch.
we created our own alien.
there was a big "mythbusters" exhibit we spent a little more time in. cody spent a little over 2 minutes changing into his superhero costume in a phone booth.
and tested to see whether toast lands butter side up.
we took a break somewhere in there to have a picnic outside and finished off with independence plaza where a rocket replica is mounted on the back of a boeing airliner. it was really cool to walk through.
we grabbed some astronaut toys and freeze dried ice cream to share with isaac, who was very sad to not be able to go. such a fun and memorable trip with my five year old boy!
