setting up house

on our way back from the reunion, we met up with sean and nicole in snowflake to pick up atlas while they went to a wedding.  they put up with our crazy mess and stayed for one night (our first house guests!).  nicole helped me unpack/organize the kitchen while sean and ryan demolished the severely bowed shelves in the pantry.  they had just enough time to destroy everything before they had to leave and drop ryan off at the airport to get back to his last two weeks of work.

we got lots of hard work done while he was gone, but first we tried out the new mickey mouse muffin pan that grandma and grandpa bishop brought back from disneyworld.  it was harder than it looks since i haven't been able to find our recipe boxes anywhere!

it seems like not much, but organizing the closets upstairs with the games, movies, and toys knocked out a good deal of boxes.  progress!

we sure love the beautiful staircase in our new house, but the idea of falling down them is a bit terrifying.  we ordered a gate and i installed it...mostly (i just can't make myself drill into the wood to secure it more permanently).  now we can at least keep bonnie downstairs unless we want to go up with her.

we have a crazy amount of rabbits in the yard that we get to watch during meals.  there are about three cottontails and three jack rabbits that keep coming back.  the 'jacks' are huge!  about the size of a cocker spaniel.

probably one of my best purchases so far was this little vacuum.  as soon as we got it out and assembled, the boys were begging for turns to vacuum - awesome!  it makes cleaning the slate in the kitchen/dining/entryway so much easier!

with ryan gone, we could only put off things for so long.  it was time to get some new tires and get the oil changed.  the kids were so helpful and well behaved for both - which took all morning.  we stopped at sonic for a very well-deserved treat on the way home.

ryan ordered me a bike for my birthday.  her name is perla.  added bonus - i got to assemble her myself (i love that kind of thing).  can't wait to go for some bike rides around the neighborhood.

talk about hard work...  i feel a little like super woman.  i got both of these not so easy to assemble beds put together (with the "help" of two little boys), including using the drill and dragging two mattresses upstairs from the garage, all before 10 a.m.  we finally got the carpet upstairs cleaned and stretched so we could move everything out of cody's room (we didn't clean or stretch his carpet) and feel a bit more settled. it was sure nice to have the boys sleeping in their own beds and their own rooms.

finding shelves that are long enough for the pantry proved harder than we expected, but i finally found them and we barely managed to fit them into the car!  now when ryan gets home we can get to work on finishing the pantry!  i'm tired of the piles of food boxes on the kitchen floor.
