bishop reunion 2014 - monday at the beach

david and julie thought it would be fun to have an international theme for meals at the reunion this year.  they made greek food for sunday dinner.  we decided we'd do international food for our breakfast as well.  ryan and i had breakfast duty on monday morning and made spanish tortilla.

the house had a great table that everyone fit easily around (with isaac and lily in booster seats off to the side) which made mealtimes easy and fun.

early on monday, we trekked down to the beach - which was just a house or two away from our beach house.  we tried to set up some shade....but it was super windy and we gave up!

the seaweed is crazy on the gulf coast, so it was a bit of a different experience than california beaches.  the water was great and the older kids and adults had fun in the water.  since the seaweed got in the way of the surf, the littler kids didn't like the size of the waves too much and opted for the beach.

ryan and cody got right to work on the sandcastle building activity for the day.

the girls decided they better get going after an hour or so!

the finished girls' castle

small, but detailed.  complete with fire breathing dragon on the drawbridge, alligators in the moat, and flag flying at the top of the tower.

the finished boys' castle (with molly)

definitely bigger and awesome with actual bridges and dragons in the moat.

chris took the older girls back to the beach during naptime and we got out a few games to play at the house.

the house had a huge porch (all the houses are up on stilts) where the kids played often!

we took family pictures monday night (after working hard to not get sunburned on our first day out!).

while the adults finished getting ready, grandma put up a pinata for the kids to break.

there were an amazing number of mosquitos everywhere outside that seemed to love me the best, so i tended to avoid the outdoors around our house wherever possible.
